Abstract
Edmond Laguerre nait en 1834 à Bar-le Duc dans une famille de notables commerçants. Il entre à l’École polytechnique en 1853 et conclut ses études à l’École d’application de l’artillerie et du génie de Metz en 1855. Il commence une carrière militaire en 1856 qui le mène à la manufacture d’armes de Mützig. En 1863, il est nommé répétiteur adjoint de géométrie à l’École polytechnique, puis en 1874, examinateur d’admission de l’École polytechnique. En 1883, il obtient la chaire de physique mathématique au Collège de France.
