Abstract
Giovanni Guccia nait en 1855 à Palerme dans une famille très aisée. Après une éducation patricienne, il commence en 1874 des études de mathématiques à l’Université de Palerme, puis les poursuit à partir de 1875 à l’Université de Rome où il suit entre autres les enseignements de Luigi Cremona qui supervisera sa thèse. En 1880, Guccia soutient à Rome une thèse consacrée à une classe de surfaces représentables point par point sur un plan. De retour à Palerme, il enseigne à l’université.
