Abstract
The paper describes some of the results of trials in the MNET (Marketing over NET-works — funded under the TEN-IBC program)1 project, in particular the performance and acceptance of the electronic market place in tourism products when the international communication is carried over ATM rather than the basic rate ISDN. ATM is now defined and accepted as the standard transfer mode for B-ISDN (Broadband ISDN). For those interested in the details of the technology on which ATM is based, see [1]. See also the 1995 February number of Communications of the ACM, which has a number of articles about Issues and Challenges in ATM NETworks [2].
