Zusammenfassung

Es ist schon lange keine revolutionäre oder originelle Feststellung mehr, dass kollektive Identitäten sozial konstruiert sind, dass der Begriff Europa umstritten und unscharf ist, und „europäische Identität“ folglich gleich in mehrfacher Hinsicht ein Produkt sozialer Konstruktion ist.1 Die empirische Analyse der „sozialen Konstruktion Europas“ (Christiansen et al. 2001) richtet sich daher zunehmend auf die Fragen, ob und wie sich nationale Identitätskonstruktionen europäisieren (z.B. Marcussen et al. 2001), wie darauf gezielt politisch Einfluss genommen wird (z.B. PollakMokre 1999), und welche Regeln und Normen in der diskursiven Auseinandersetzung um Europa dominant sind, d.h. welche Inhalte mit der Idee europäischer Identität verbunden werden. Der folgende Beitrag wird sich auf die letzte dieser Fragen konzentrieren.2
