Zusammenfassung
Zur Diagnostik und Behandlung zahlreicher Erkrankungen werden auch in der Pädiatrie komplementäre (ergänzende) oder alternative Methoden angewandt. Diese werden einer konventionellen, „allopathischen“ Schulmedizin gegenübergestellt, die sich auf wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisgewinn und evidenzbasierte Verfahren stützt.
Da die Begriffe „komplementär“ oder „alternativ“ in diesem Zusammenhang nicht exakt definiert sind, kommen viele sehr unterschiedliche Diagnose- und Therapiemodalitäten zum Einsatz (◘ Tab. 6.1). Den meisten Verfahren ist gemeinsam, dass ihre Wirksamkeit, Sicherheit und Kosteneffektivität bislang nicht ausreichend durch kontrollierte Studien belegt wurden. Umso erstaunlicher ist es, dass aktuellen Übersichtsarbeiten zufolge bereits ca. 70 % der Allgemeinbevölkerung und ca. 50 % der Kinder und Jugendlichen in Deutschland in Kontakt mit komplementären Diagnose- und/oder Therapieverfahren gekommen sind.
