Introduction

Togo is one of the smallest States in West Africa with a total area of 56,785 km2 for 7.93 million people in 2018, stretching over about 600 km from North to South with a breadth not exceeding 160 km and a maritime coast of 56 km along the Gulf of Guinea between Benin and two major West African Anglophone countries (Ghana-West and Nigeria-East). It is located at 6°06′ Southern and 11°08′ Northern latitudes, and 0°09 Western and 1°49 Eastern longitudes. There are about 50 ethnic groups in the country. None of them is a majority ethnic group, but Ewe, Kabyè, Kotokoli, and Moba represent over 40% of the people. Togo’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is US $ 5.35 billion for a total population of 7.93 million people in 2018.
