Abstract
Flood is one of the most serious disasters in the world. Global flood risk assessment is of great importance for global flood loss reduction. Relevant work has been very limited due to limited global data and largescale models. In this study, we combined the traditional analytical and empirical methodologies to assess global flood risk. The result is based on the evaluation of flood-induced potential losses as well as the synthetic analysis of hazard, exposure, and vulnerability. In addition, flood-related environmental factors were also considered in some cases of our models according to the theory of natural disaster system. The results have shown that Asia (especially East, South, and Southeast Asia), the south of North America (especially the lower reach of the Mississippi River), and the west of Europe have the highest risk.
