Zusammenfassung
Die Beschreibung experimenteller Infektionen mit Tuberkelbakterien in einer besonderen Abhandlung dieses Handbuches ist durch die große Intensität der Forschung auf diesem Gebiet gerechtfertigt. Es gibt kaum eine andere Infektionskrankheit, deren experimentelle Grundlagen so eingehend studiert wurden wie die der Tuberkulose; die weltweite Bedeutung dieser Erkrankung und die verhältnismäßig frühe Entdeckung ihres Erregers sind Gründe für den Umfang dieser Arbeit. Außerdem bietet die Tuberkulose durch Besonderheiten von Allergie und Immunität, aber auch von Pathogenese und Morphologie großen Anreiz für den Forscher. Das Tierexperiment hat in dieser Forschungsarbeit von allem Anfang an eine sehr wichtige Rolle gespielt. Die in der Tuberkuloseforschung benützten Verfahren unterscheiden sich nicht selten von den bei anderen bakteriellen Infektionen benützten Methoden. Die Chronizität der Erkrankung auch beim Tier, die hohe Infektiosität geben dem Tierversuch in dieser Arbeitsrichtung seine Sonderstellung. Hier ist auch der verschiedenartige Krankheitsverlauf bei einzelnen Tierarten zu nennen, der den Forscher auf diesem Gebiet vor besondere Schwierigkeiten und Probleme stellt.
