Abstract
The organophosphorus (OP) compounds are one of the largest groups of insecticides in use today and they have largely replaced the organochlorine insecticides. They are neutral ester or amide derivatives of phosphorous acids [P(V) oxyacids] carrying a phosphoryl (P-O) or thiophosphoryl (P-S) group as shown in Fig. 11.1. They are generally the most toxic of all insecticides to insects and vertebrates (with some exceptions) by inhibiting cholinesterases.
