Zusammenfassung
Der Artikel gibt eine Arbeitsdefinition des Begriffs „soziale Bewegung“ und schließt an mit einem Überblick über einflussreiche theoretische Ansätze in der Bewegungsforschung. Darauf folgt eine Typologie sozialer Bewegungen, beginnend mit den antisystemischen Bewegungen des 19. Jh. bis hin zu gegenwärtigen Formen globaler Protestkultur und indigenen Bewegungen. Die Bewegungen werden hinsichtlich ihrer Organisationsstrukturen, Ziele und Praktiken beschrieben sowie zeitlich und räumlich und in den theoretischen Ansätzen verortet.
