Abstract
Islamic religious pedagogy is sort of a poor relative in educational and directional discourse in Austria. In particular, the perspective of the actual “actors,” the ones who impart religious content to Muslim students in schools, has not yet been greatly examined. This article presents an ongoing research project into the self-concept and frameworks of orientation and behavioral patterns of Islamic religion teachers in Austria. Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu’s concept of habitus, the project aims to elucidate what guides them in their approaches to religious and interreligious learning. The empirical study is intended to yield valuable insights into both religious educational practices and the possibilities and limits of team-taught, interfaith lessons.
