Zusammenfassung
Aus der Sicherheitspolitik sind Private Militär- und Sicherheitsfirmen (PMSFs) nicht mehr wegzudenken. Sowohl in der inneren Sicherheit, im Bereich der Objekt- und Personensicherung, der Aufklärung und Datenauswertung als auch in der äußeren Sicherheit, im Schutz von Diplomatinnen und Diplomaten, der Unterstützung militärischer Einsätze durch Transportkapazitäten, Objekt und Personenschutz, Aufklärung, Training und Beratung sind die Firmen aktiv. Der vorliegende Beitrag befasst sich vorrangig mit der Privatisierung der auswärtigen Sicherheitspolitik, die seit den 1990er Jahren enorm zugenommen hat.

Studien, die sich mit Privatisierung der inneren Sicherheit beschäftigen, zeigen, dass eine Angleichung der professionellen Standards zwischen privaten (ökonomische Profitlogik) und hoheitlichen Akteuren (Logik demokratischer Kontrolle) eher unwahrscheinlich ist und damit Konflikte vorprogrammiert sind (z. B. Hirschmann 2018).
