Zusammenfassung

Mit der Erweiterung der EU und den krisenhaften Erscheinungen im globalen Maßstab geriet das Thema Armut und sozialer Ausgrenzung zunehmend in den Fokus der europäischen Sozialpolitik. Dabei unterscheidet die EU zwischen Bedrohung von Armut oder sozialer Ausgrenzung und materieller und sozialer Deprivation.

    Die Armutsgefährdungsquote ist ein Indikator zur Messung relativer Einkommensarmut und wird definiert als Anteil der Personen, deren Äquivalenzeinkommen weniger als 60 Prozent des Medians des Äquivalenzeinkommens der Bevölkerung (in Privathaushalten) beträgt.

    Die Daten werden mit der Gemeinschaftsstatistik über Einkommen und Lebensbedingungen (EU Survey on Income and Living Conditions – EU-SILC) erfasst, die jährlich erhoben wird.
