Abstract
In this talk I will describe a manual which is being prepared by a Task Force in the ASTM Committee E-9 on Fatigue. The purpose of this manual is to provide an outline of step-by-step procedures for using statistical methods in fatigue testing. The manual is intended for testing engineers without statistical training. We hope that the availability of such simplified outlines will permit everyone to make more use of these methods. This in turn will lead to the collection of information which in the future will permit more precise recommendations to be made. We welcome this opportunity to receive your suggestions on how this manual may be made most useful.
