Abstract
The use of computers to provide decision support in clinical medicine is increasing rapidly. In contrast with only a few years ago, there appears now to be only two remaining schools of thought. The first predicts widespread use of decision support systems when the crop of computer literate school children enter medicine. This is the pessimistic school The second school holds that technology will insinuate its way into medical decision-making well before the close of the present decade. The latter groups cite as examples, the systems in the United Kingdom and the Unites States which are currently becoming available on a widespread basis.
