Abstract

Prototype of acute demyelinating affections, the Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) presents as a bilateral, symmetrical, extensive, sensitivo-motor peripheral neuropathy. Elevated cerebrospinal fluid protein and spontaneous resolution of the deficits are cardinal to the identification of this syndrome. In contrast to former descriptions, it has appeared that functional as well as vital prognoses may be involved in some patients [1]. The label of benignity, too often attached to this syndrome, should be given up. The need for an effective treatment appears therefore important.
