Zusammenfassung
Die Frage nach dem Wert oder Nutzen klinisch-chemischer Untersuchungen ist in jüngster Zeit mit zunehmender Dringlichkeit gestellt worden. Hierfür gibt es verschiedene Gründe:

a)
Die große Zahl der durchgeführten Untersuchungen hat zu einer Dätenflut geführt, welche die korrekte Auswertung durch den Kliniker erschwert.

b)
Es werden mögliche nachteilige Folgen für den Patienten diskutiert, wie sie etwa durch die Begriffe „Befundkranke“ (1) oder „Odysseus-Syndrom“ (15) beschrieben sind.

c)
Die ökonomischen Grenzen der Gesundheitssysteme lassen eine unbegrenzte Ausweitung der Untersuchungen nicht mehr zu.
