Kurzfassung
Die Notwendigkeit graphischer Visualisierungssysteme für das Verständnis und die Bewertung parallel ablaufender Programme ist mittlerweile allgemein anerkannt. In diesem Artikel wird die prinzipielle Architektur von Visualisierungsumgebungen erläutert und es werden deren Möglichkeiten und Grenzen diskutiert. Anschließend wird eine interaktive und graphisch unterstützte Visualisierungs- und Animationsumgebung vorgestellt, die dem Beobachter die Konstruktion anwendungsspezifischer Visualisierungsweikzeuge ermöglicht Diese Umgebung wurde in einer ersten prototypischen Implementierung zur Visualisierung von auf einem Transputersystem ablaufenden Occam-Programmen eingesetzt.
