Abstract
Chengdu Plain is situated at the upper reaches of the Changjiang River in the subtropical zone, with a height of 450–750 m above the sea level and a gradient of 4‰. It covers an area of about 7500 square kilometres, with an average annual rainfall of about 1000 mm. It is generally used for a rotation of rice and winter dryland crops. As devoted mainly to rice plantation this plain is characterized by its high elevation and vast expanse of rice fields.
