Zusammenfassung

Urolithiasis ist eine weltweit zunehmende Erkrankung. Die Inzidenz verdreifachte sich in der letzten Dekade von 0,5 % auf 1,5 %. Die Prävalenz in Europa liegt derzeit bei 5–10 %, d. h. bis zu 50 Mio. Europäer leiden unter dieser schmerzhaften, häufig rezidivierenden Erkrankung. Steinpatienten mit rezidivierenden Koliken bilden einen großen Anteil des urologischen Klientels, insbesondere die Schmerztherapie ist eine kritische Komponente in der Notfallversorgung. Des Weiteren ist es Ziel die Nieren vor Schädigung durch Obstruktion und Infektion zu bewahren und den Patienten bezüglich der weiteren Therapie, ob konservativ, medikamentös oder durch aktive Steinentfernung kompetent zu beraten. Dazu ist fundiertes Wissen über ein weites Spektrum sowohl medikamentöser als auch operativer Therapiestrategien unerlässlich. In diesem Kapitel werden Symptomatik, bildgebende diagnostische Verfahren, die häufigsten Differenzialdiagnosen der symptomatischen Urolithiasis, medikamentöse Schmerztherapie sowie Indikationen und Ergebnisse der medikamentös-expulsiven Steintherapie dargestellt.
