Summary

Within the framework of the DFG transition programme, the Institute for Aerospace Engineering (ILR) of the Dresden University of Technology (TUD) investigates the spreading of disturbances downstream of a point-shaped source in a laminar boundary layer on a flat plate.

The measurements were performed with hot wire probes on the transition test configuration in the low speed wind tunnel of the TUD. Two different configurations of a point source have been examined so far. A circular arrangement of six cannulas (0.2 mm wide) is not appropriate in the current set up because the disturbances were damped out immediately. A short slot (0.2×5 mm) however, has provided useful results.

The downstream development of amplitude and phase of the artificial disturbances is described in detail.
