Abstract
The main purpose of this book is to elucidate what Hegel says and does in “The Doctrine of Being.” In the first section of Chapter 1, I explain why an adequate account of Hegel’s logic requires both a detailed and critical account. In the second section, I explain the sense in which Hegel regarded his speculative logic as a post-Kantian metaphysics . Such logic, Hegel claims, must be both presuppositionless and immanently self-develo**. The third section explores what Hegel meant by a presuppositionless, immanent logic (dialectic ), and why such logic must begin with pure being.
