A recombinant inbred strain is a strain formed by crossing two inbred strain, which is continued to be crossed or say repeated for the next 20 generations.
Introduction
Recombinant inbred strains (RIS) are the offspring developed from the two foremost inbred lines, which contains approximately the same ratio of genetic contributions of their ancestors. The repeated crossing is strictly done between brother x sister to form a new inbred line; this leads to the construction of a genome which is mosaic of the genome of the parents.
In this way production of a line is done which has unique property but is related to one another. It can also be understood as when different parents which were inbred meant as members of a set.
These organisms undergo important recombination events in their chromosomes, which they inherit from more than two inbred lines.
