Abstract
The new opportunities that space systems and technology now offers to us globally are potentially enormous. As we try to plot a course forward for Earthlings, however, we need to recognize certain truths. Paramount in this regard is that unless we stop literally eating up the limited resources of Earth and start to implement sustainability practices both on the ground and in space, nothing will change. Unless people stop being big consumers and start becoming focusing on sustaining and building for future generations, then the riches of outer space will all be for nothing. The new gold rush must be with a purpose. And that purpose is to build a better future.
