Phase Study of the Praseodymium-Oxygen System by the Multiple Thermal Analysis

  • Chapter
Thermal Analysis

Abstract

A multiple technique coupled with thermogravimetry (TG) and evolved gas analysis (EGA) was applied to examine the phase relation of praseodymium-oxygen system under the controlled oxygen potentials. The oxygen pressure was monitored in situ in the vicinity of the sample. The evolution and uptake of oxygen were sensitively detected by EGA during the transformations in praseodymium oxides. The result of EGA was consistent with that of TG. In EGA, a oxygen sensor (OS) which consisted of a calcia stabilized zirconia (CSZ) electrolyte was found to be more effective than a thermal conductivity detector (TCD) at low oxygen potentials.
