Der Kernkollaps im Innern von Sk -69 202 setzte große Mengen Neutrinos frei; einige wechselwirkten mit dem Material des Sternkörpers. Zusätzlich verursachte der Kernkollaps eine Schockwelle, die durch den Stern nach außen wanderte und ihn aufheizte. Diese beiden Prozesse übertrugen Energie und Impuls auf die Sternhülle.
