Abstract

This chapter explores the neuroanatomy and develo** brain circuits implicated in disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD). It dissects the latest neuroimaging studies that reveal atypical brain development patterns in DMDD, particularly in areas regulating mood, aggression, and impulsivity. The text highlights key structures, such as the prefrontal cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus and their dysregulated interactions that may underlie the persistent irritability and frequent temper outbursts characteristic of DMDD. Understanding these neural substrates provides critical insights into potential therapeutic targets and informs evidence-based interventions to alleviate symptoms and improve outcomes for affected children and adolescents.
