Abstract
A real-time location system (RTLS) provides the real-time tracking and monitoring of objects within their immediate spatial and temporal context. Currently, there exists a diverse range of technology and services that are readily available in the present era. RTLS exhibits intriguing possibilities within the manufacturing domain, alongside its utilization in healthcare and overall logistics. Research and implementation of use cases pertaining to manufacturing are now underway in many industrial settings. The objective of this article is to provide a comprehensive and collective understanding of the technical capabilities of RTLS, while addressing the limitations of a narrow perspective focused only on specific solutions. RTLS-based systems may be systematically developed via the use of this technology.
