Abstract
The case Fixit is an exercise in understanding and applying the full potential of the complete transaction pattern, including the revocation patterns and the consequent roll-backs of the main business process. The analysis of the case demonstrates and clarifies that the complete transaction pattern covers all ‘exceptional’ situations, which, in current practice, are commonly taking care of in separate business processes, thereby blurring the inherent connections with other processes as well as the involved responsibilities. Understanding exceptions within this pattern not only helps actors in all enterprises to get a deeper insight into the business processes they are involved in, but it is also an invaluable intellectual asset for the designers of business process management systems, specifically regarding the design of the user-system interaction.
