Abstract

Mayotte is surrounded by a spectacular lagoon, home to exceptional marine biodiversity. This offers incredible opportunities for water-based activities such as scuba diving, sailing, and many others. This remarkable natural heritage is a major attraction for water sports enthusiasts, sports leisure and tourist activities, and hikes that can be enjoyed in this tropical island environment.

Sports tourism in Mayotte can thus become a driving force for sustainable economic development and a means of preserving and enhancing the island’s natural heritage. It is also necessary to strengthen the tourism infrastructure by improving sports facilities, develo** support services and training specialized professionals.

Mayotte is a fantastic adventure playground for hiking enthusiasts. The island is one of those rare places that has managed to preserve an exceptionally authentic environment. For a number of reasons, however, these activities are often financially inaccessible to the vast majority of the indigenous population, as they often have to be paid for locally.
