Abstract
Environmental monitoring is crucial to assess the overall hygiene of food processing facilities. Food safety does not only rely on the food attributes itself but also on where and how the foods are being produced. An integrated system to monitor operational conditions in food manufacturing sites should be effective and continuous to safeguard food from potential hazards. This chapter intends to explain the scope of environmental monitoring in the food industry and how biotechnology can help food manufacturers effectively detect potential hazards, verify cleanliness and sanitation, and remove pollutants from the food environment.
