Digital Diplomacy in the OSCE Region

Abstract

International media and digital diplomacy are increasingly important concepts in contemporary international relations. International media is a crucial tool that provides news and information to people worldwide. Digital diplomacy is a set of activities in which states and other international actors use digital technologies to achieve their foreign policy objectives.

International media is an essential tool for digital diplomacy. States can use international media to publicize their foreign policies, create public opinion, and communicate with other countries. For example, during an international crisis, a state can publicize its position to the world public through the international media. Digital diplomacy also makes significant contributions to international media. Digital diplomacy increases the influence of international media. Digital technologies allow states to convey their messages faster and more effectively, reach a wider audience, and establish a more participatory dialogue. This makes it easier for states to achieve their foreign policy objectives.

International media and digital diplomacy have become essential to today’s international relations. A better understanding of the effects of these concepts and the positive use of these effects are necessary for a more sustainable and fair conduct of international relations. This chapter, titled “The impact of Twitter on digital diplomacy in the context of international media”, focuses on how international media affects digital diplomacy and evaluates the official Twitter posts of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) during the Russia–Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan–Tajikistan, and Azerbaijan–Armenia crises.
