Abstract

The relationship between science and philology is far more complex, and far more interesting, than would be suggested by the popular imagination of a banal antithesis between them: for scientists have usually also been philologists, no science is possible without textualization, and the institutions and practices involved are fundamentally deeply similar. Yet much still needs to be done to help the conversation between philology and the sciences to develop all its potential. This pioneering book is an important step in that direction.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007–2013)/ERC Grant Agreement No. 269804.
