Abstract
Benchmarking and key performance indicators (KPIs) are vital tools in clinical laboratory management, allowing for the evaluation and continuous improvement of performance. Benchmarking is an essential method for comparing processes and practices against industry standards. The present chapter elucidates its objectives and detailed process. The classification, advantages, and disadvantages of benchmarking described in this chapter provide a comprehensive understanding of its implementation and impact. Key performance indicators are important for measuring and guiding the success of a laboratory. The classification of KPIs and their associated advantages and limitations are discussed in the chapter. Specific attention is given to KPIs for clinical laboratories. Using dashboard for management has also been described in the present chapter.
