Abstract
As my wife loves to remind me, “stress was invented by a MAN.” The famed Doctor Hans Selye is credited with being the first scientist to describe health changes to an organism from environmental demand. His observations started by connecting various similarities between sick patients with different illnesses. The symptoms of foul mood, fatigue, and loss of appetite. This initial observation in humans was the theme that carried into his scientific career which at the time was discovery of the hormones. He made observations that through the experiments all of the laboratory animals showed the same negative effects on the animal’s organs—regardless of the hormone he injected them with. Then he tried various other types of environmental stresses such as heat, cold, and got the exact same response.
