Zusammenfassung

Einsamkeit wird normalerweise mit negativen Emotionen in der Lebensmitte und im höheren Alter verbunden, wie dem Gefühl der Ablehnung und dem Erleben von Angst oder Depression. Einsamkeit, die jedoch für einen kurzen Zeitraum erlebt wird, kann positive Auswirkungen auf die Selbstentwicklung in Bezug auf Selbstreflexion und in die persönliche Entwicklung investierten Aufwand haben. Die Erforschung der Einsamkeit in der Lebensmitte und im höheren Alter aus der Perspektive der positiven Psychologie stellt eine interessante Herausforderung dar, da die negativen Folgen der Einsamkeit mit dem Altern zunehmen. In diesem Kapitel untersuche ich die Einsamkeit in der Lebensmitte und im höheren Alter, indem ich theoretische Definitionen, die Faktoren, die ihr Auftreten bestimmen, sowie die Art und Weise, wie Menschen mittleren und höheren Alters das Gefühl der Einsamkeit beschreiben, in Betracht ziehe. Anschließend diskutiere ich das Problem der Messung von Einsamkeit in späteren Lebensphasen und fasse einige Instrumente zusammen, die zur Messung verwendet werden können. Schließlich erforsche ich die Verbindungen zwischen Einsamkeit und Entwicklung in verschiedenen Bereichen (d. h., kognitive, emotionale, soziale, physische, Persönlichkeit) und wie man die Prinzipien der positiven Psychologie anwenden kann, um das Auftreten von Einsamkeit in der Lebensmitte und im höheren Alter zu verhindern oder zu reduzieren.
