Abstract

The role of the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant in providing home care services on an interprofessional team is vital. Physical therapy is a crucial component of the rehabilitation process, and PT interventions are required to help patients regain functional independence necessary to maintain quality of life. The provision of physical therapy in the natural environment along with the use of telehealth services in the home setting has proven to be highly beneficial. Physical therapy assessment procedures can be conducted in the home, and documentation required for Medicare can also be completed for home health services. While providing physical therapy services in the home, the physical therapist and physical therapist assistant must pay attention to safety concerns in the home. Some physical therapy interventions can help reduce safety hazards and increase functional independence with home modifications and the use of adaptive equipment.
