Abstract
Persistent idiopathic facial pain (PIFP) is a poorly understood chronic orofacial pain condition. Patients report varying qualities of persistent pain of moderate to severe intensity in the oral and maxillofacial region. Sites of pain do not correspond to the peripheral trigeminal branch distribution. PIFP is not accompanied by abnormalities in clinical examination or on imaging. Achieving treatment response is often challenging.
