Abstract
The degree to which generations make sustainable economic decisions depends critically on how each generation internalizes its externalities. Sustainability first requires negative externalities within a generation to be internalized. Then, remaining intergenerational externalities must be remedied to indemnify future generations. If these tandem objectives are met, one remaining issue is an assurance that each generation does not inappropriately discount economic values of subsequent generations.
