Abstract
The WebMap is an advancement of the previous WebEngines 1 and 2. It facilitates a distributed extended linking structure for any hyperlinked network of documents like the Web. It is designed as a modular system in which each participant can assume different roles and functions. The current progress of the implementation as well as the results of a first experiment in a single host setup are presented. They indicate the feasibility of the concept and suggest further tests in multi-host environments and larger hypertext-based networks. Furthermore, third parties can utilize the WebMap and develop extended services based on it. In here, the example of a web search application is showcased.
