Abstract
This is a general review that will review relevant anatomy, pathology, clinical decision making, operative technique, postoperative complications and their management relevant to small bowel surgery. Relevant topics will include small bowel obstruction, blind loop syndrome, Meckel’s diverticulum, enterocutaneous fistulas, mesenteric ischemia, ileus, pneumatosis, radiation enteritis, and small bowel neoplasms. Additionally, there are detailed descriptions for the steps involved in ileostomy creation, reversal, and small bowel resection.
