Essential Burn Care for Non-Burn Specialists

Abstract

Caring for the elderly burn patient requires knowledge of the anatomical and physiological changes in this patient population. This knowledge, including that of pre-existing conditions and medication use, is critical for initial resuscitation, critical care, and operative planning. Care for this patient population involves unique scenarios such as non-accidental trauma and navigation of end-of-life decisions that can be challenging.
