Abstract

Of course science must be self-correcting and self-regulating. Over time, the division of labor between the scientific community and the public has shifted in the direction of democratization, requiring focus on social responsibility and some regulatory oversight. The Institutional Corruption framework, broadly applied across societal activities, requires that science must be true to its core purpose and not diverted from it by institutional practices focused on other goals, frequently profit. Once firmly established, it is difficult to revert to goals and values of science.
