Abstract

Biochar application to soils can both sequester carbon in the long term, and improve soil fertility by storing nutrients and water. Biochar is produced by pyrolysis of biomass and biomass residues at high temperature. Here we review biochar application to soil with focus on improving crop productivity and soil fertility. The effect of biochar are highly variable depending on the type of biochar and the experimental conditions. Biochar modify significantly soil properties.
