Abstract

In this chapter, a brief introduction to mindfulness is offered, with an exploration of its qualities and processes that may benefit children. An overview of the existing mindfulness-based programs (MBPs) for children and adolescents are provided and highlight how these programs have been adapted from approaches originally developed for adults. Findings of systematic reviews and meta-analyses on the efficacy of child mindfulness-based programs in children are presented including those implemented as a prevention program in schools or organized in therapeutic setting for children with different clinical disorders. Lastly, a review of the parent- and teacher-mindfulness-based programs, emphasizing their impacts on children, is included. A critical remark is included at the end of the chapter summarizing the current state of the evidence base.
