Abstract

Christmas Island, an external Territory of Australia, is a tropical island located in the Indian Ocean southwest of Java. It is composed of uplifted coral reefs overlying a volcanic core and is therefore significantly different from the karst in the rest of Australia. A variety of coastal and inland caves occur in the limestones overlying the volcanic seamount.
