Abstract
Understanding how fluids travel through subsurface rocks is crucial to design ground water management, hydrocarbon extraction, CO2 sequestration, and contaminant remediation projects. Expressions that describe fluids traveling through simple domains exist, but they fail to forecast the behavior of fluids traveling through complex media. On the other hand, numerical methods like lattice Boltzmann provide a pathway to obtain the velocity field in complex geometries.
