Abstract

Climate change effects in Georgia are readily apparent with increased cases of extreme weather, such as landslides, floods, rising sea levels, storms and other ecological disasters. According to the World Bank, such conditions can be associated with 6% of national GDP loss annually. Half of such loss stems from air pollution’s threat to mortality, which in 2018 amounted to the deaths of 4000 people, one of the highest rates in Europe. However, fighting climate change is not mainstreamed neither in public debates and nor in policy making and public awareness of climate change related problems as well as the benefits of transitioning to a greener and climate resilient economy remains very low.
