Abstract

The Uttarakhand Himalaya has rich floral diversity, economically valuable tree species, and an almost equal distribution of forests—horizontal and vertical. However, the use pattern of the forest resources is not uniform. A large area of forests is unused, and forests in the surroundings of the settlements are overused. Therefore, sustainable forest management is inevitable using indigenous traditional knowledge and assessment of forest sustainability. This chapter comprises the significance of forests, traditional indigenous knowledge of conserving forests, and discussion and conclusions.
