Handbook of School Mental Health

Part of the book series: Issues in Clinical Child Psychology ((ICCP))

Abstract

Coaching is increasingly implemented within schools to promote the use of evidence-based practices and programs. This chapter seeks to push the field forward by sharing important coaching innovations to promote students’ social, emotional, and behavioral (SEB) outcomes and posing considerations for a coaching meta-model. We define coaching and consultation, review coaching innovations, and highlight recommendations for training, practice, and research. This chapter aims to provide school mental health researchers and practitioners with a guide for leveraging coaching innovations to support teachers’ uptake of universal (Tier 1) and targeted (Tier 2) evidence-based practices and programs in schools.
